LPixel, the leading life science imaging analysis startup from the University of Tokyo, announced today a Series A investment of $7 million led by JAFCO with participation from Mistletoe, Toray Engineering as well as a private investor. Toray Engineering shall also engage in business development. The financing will be used to enhance its research and development of proprietary AI technologies and to accelerate its global expansion in life science and medical industries.
LPixel offers practical solutions that academic and industrial knowledge are highly integrated since it has been dedicated to multiple joint studies with prominent medical institutions such as National Cancer Center Japan from former laboratory. Because of the overwhelming demand for assisting image diagnosing, LPixel is expanding its business. 
Moreover, Japan is an advanced medical imaging market. The number of CT and MRI instruments per 1 million population is the largest in the world and imaging analysis is an essential part of medical examination. This is a huge advantage to optimize accuracy of analysis with machine learning in terms of both quantity and quality.
